The National Service Scheme (Unit No: 171) operates within the Government Polytechnic College in Chelakkara, under the Technical Cell of the Directorate of Technical Education. Our unit, designated as Unit No 171, is dedicated to fostering personal development through community service. The leadership of this unit is vested in a Program Officer, supported by an Advisory Board consisting of the Principal and all Heads of Departments.

The NSS activities are categorized into two main types:

Regular activities

Campus cleaning and beautification.
Orientation programs.
Community visits.
Tree plantation initiatives.
Blood donation camps.
Commemoration of significant days.

Special Camp activities

The seven-day special camp encompasses "Sramdhan" programs conducted in selected wards of nearby Grama Panchayats.
NSS also conducts socio-economic and health surveys within chosen villages, collecting data to propose remedial measures for community improvement.
